At Dwight International School we offer a motivating, individual approach in small classes, supplemented with many different social activities. Our average class is 10 students per class, which allows students greater personal attention from teachers.

Our goal is to educate internationally-minded individuals who will be caring, principled leaders. Dwight students and faculty strive to live that credo daily.

At Dwight our focus is on Global Education, Global Citizenship, and Environmental Sustainability.

Global Education

Dwight International School is the only boarding school in Western Canada that offers the IB and BC curriculum. The IB curriculum is a world renowned innovative curriculum known for both its academic excellence and focus on international issues and promoting global-mindedness.

Our partnerships with the Dwight School in New York and The North London International School in England also provide opportunities for students be truly global in their thinking. Joint courses, semester exchanges, service projects and other school trips help connect the Dwight family. In doing so, our students learn about the world, from the world.

Global Citizenship

Dwight International School is a proud supporter of the Institute for Civic Leadership (ICL) (www.iclny.org). The ICL is a non profit educational organization focused on global youth leadership. Dwight International School has become a HUB for leadership education. This summer we will be hosting students from London, USA, China, and all over the world to study and promote youth leadership. Students from Dwight Canada will also have the opportunity to join other Dwight students on an ICL organized service project to Peru.

Environmental Sustainability

At Dwight International School we are working towards not only being carbon neutral but actually carbon positive. This is an ambitious goal but following the mantra of the ICL conferences, “Dare to Dream” we believe that this is possible. Our goal is to incorporate the latest technology and use it as a teaching tool in the classroom. We also promote sustainable practices by supporting local farmers and buying local and organic food.

Philosophy

At the core of these programs is our strong belief and commitment to personal student care and the development of tomorrow's leaders. Our vision, mission and values permeate all aspects of the school.

Vision

To produce students who excel academically and are leaders in their communities. Our graduates will be sought after by the top universities and be known for the positive contributions they make in the community.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to educate future leaders who will make responsible changes to improve the human condition, will become stewards of the environment, will bridge differences between cultures and nations, and will cherish the pursuit of knowledge and the arts.

We believe that every student has a spark of genius, and our goal is to nurture that potential. We strive to develop inquisitive, informed, and ethical citizens who, with a sense of global kinship, will take action to build a better world.

VALUES

At the core of our philosophy are a set of values that infuse the way we teach and learn at Dwight International. Theses values set the foundation for our curriculum, our activities, and community involvement.

Responsibility. We care about others. At the core of our curriculum is leadership. Students must lead and take responsibility, even in the face of uncertainty. Students are responsible to themselves, their classmates, and the community.

Integrity. Leaders must show integrity. We can be trusted to always act with the best interest of our students, our faculty, and our communities. In our daily actions we must show trust so that we can be trusted.

Leadership through understanding ourselves. We are defined by the roles we play, the culture we live in and the organizations to which we belong. Contributing to society requires that we find out who we are and want to be. We believe in inoculating leadership in all students at all ages.

Leadership through understanding others. We promote intercultural awareness and understanding through authentic experiences both within our school and the broader community. By building an international environment, promoting cultural exchanges, and integrating with the local and global communities with service projects we seek to broaden exposure to other cultures. As Lester B. Pearson, former Prime Minister of Canada, stated “How can there peace without understanding, and how can there be understanding without knowing each other”.

Leadership through action. We believe in leading by example. Our students will be equipped with skills to make a difference and to act on their goals and values.

Leadership through excellence. We believe that each person must strive for personal excellence. In all aspects of life we strive for excellence in the classroom, in extra curricular activities, and in our service to others.
