About Dwight International School

Dwight International School is modeled after the Dwight School in New York, one of the oldest IB schools in North America. Each school offers a holistic education based on the IB curriculum, aimed at developing future leaders, entrepreneurs, and responsible citizens. In relating the school’s philosophy and vision, Mr. Salvador states on the school website, “We believe that every student has a spark of genius, and our goal is to nurture that potential. We strive to develop inquisitive, informed, and ethical citizens who, with a sense of global kinship, will take action to build a better world”.

Dwight International School is part of the Dwight family of schools, which includes the Dwight School (New York) and the North London International School in London England. Exchanges between the schools increase the diversity of the programs available to students. Summer programs also bring students from Manhattan and London to study in Shawnigan Lake and students from all schools join together for community service projects in Tanzania, India and Peru.

A core belief at all the Dwight Schools is that each student has a “spark of genius” and that the role of the teacher and school is to help students discover, develop, and use their spark to make a better world. When asked what type of student fits the Dwight Schools, Chancellor Stephen Spahn, says the answer is: “an open-minded young person with a sincere desire to learn, and a spark of interest that can be fanned to illuminate the student’s full array of talents.” Through the International Baccalaureate Programme, Dwight’s goal is to educate internationally-minded individuals who will be caring, principled leaders. Dwight students and faculty strive to live that credo daily.
